Style Inspiration: The First Wives Club

Hello lovelies,

When Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves blared through the speakers at work today, I was reminded of one of my all-time favourite movies, featuring three of the most fabulous actresses in existence. I am, of course, talking about The First Wives Club, starring Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton.

The film is a comedy about three women who realize at the funeral of a friend that they have all been cheated by their ex-husbands, who all went on to leave their for younger women. They decide to form a "First Wives" club, and proceed to get hilarious, hilarious revenge on their former partners.

Diane Keaton plays a rather anxious & neurotic housewife, who tries to reconcile her differences with her ex-husband until she realizes that he is cheating on her with their therapist. Bette Midler plays a witty & sarcastic single mum, whose mob/family connections got her ex-husbands business started before he left her for a young blonde with expensive taste. Goldie Hawn plays an alcoholic, former-Oscar-winning actress who kick-started her former husbands film career - before he has an affair with a girl that he doesn't realize is only 16.

Apparently it developed somewhat of a cult following amongst middle-aged women (and little girls named Stacey - probably for the best that I didn't actually grow up to be Goldie Hawn's character like I wanted). I find it interesting to watch these movies now and see how some of the clothing items come back into fashion. Bodysuits and denim shorts anyone? Chunky knit sweaters? Tuxedo jackets for women?

Corny as this movie may be, it still makes me feel like I can do anything. If I'm having a crap day, I can chuck this movie on and it always makes me feel better. I often sing & dance around my lounge room whilst I watch it. The other thing this movie does is make me really, really miss my friends. I love that even though these characters have been abandoned by the people who promised to love them forever, they realize that there are still these other people who will still love them forever, even if it is sometimes quietly & from a distance.

The best bit of the movie.

Until next time, xo.

P.S. Here is a recent picture of Diane Keaton, Better Midler & Goldie Hawn - aren't they all gorgeous?!
