E-Rock + Taylor Swift + Oliver

My love for Taylor Swift in the year 2011 went something like this:

1. Ring in the new year playing "On to the Next One." I secretly wish I were playing "You Belong With Me" or "Love Story."

2. I don't really like "Sparks Fly." Am I not a true T. fan?

3. OMFG, GTFO. Songs as good as "The Story of Us" exist? Why have I ever wasted my time listening to anything else ever, ever, ever? OMG, this song. OMG, OMFG, ZOMG.

4. My hair looks really good in my new Taylor Swift women's XL tee.

5. "The Story of Us" is the perfect last song for my mix Where's My Meet-Cute? The Search for Friendly Greg's Future Wife!. I can't wait for her to meet my cat. And I can't wait to meet hers. Our family is gonna be quite literally too adorable.

6. E-Rock plays "The Story of Us" at Westway, I go honey baked ham, Turbz stares at me like I'm one of these or something of the sort.

7. E-Rock ends his best of 2011 mix with "The Story of Us" and I'm like, "Um, yes! Totally neat, radical, and super!"

8. I play "We Found Love" at midnight instead of "The Story of Us" on NYE because I wanna "do a good job" and "get paid" and "not piss everyone off." And thus 2012 begins just as miserably as did 2011.

Taylor Swift

I'm thankful for mashed potatoes. I used to hate mashed potatoes. One time my mother, sister, and I ordered mashed potatoes from this chicken spot a few blocks away from us. They were eating the mashed potatoes when they found napkins shredded and mixed into the mashed potatoes. I did not eat mashed potatoes at the time, and I decided then and there that I would never eat mashed potatoes. But a few years later I realized that I'm fat and I love potatoes and milk, so mashed potatoes (which are more or less just potatoes mashed up and mixed with milk and butter) were, like, my dream food. I am thankful for mashed potatoes.

Ke$ha + Grindin Chart

Ah, Ke$ha. I told y'all a couple of months ago just how crucial her "Tik Tok" may or may not be for certain DJs. Unsurprisingly, the cut's tiptoed onto the Billboard Hot 100. And what do you do with mainstream hits? Make a long overdue video, of course. Now y'all can see just how much she looks like T. Swift in addition to sounding like my girl Uffie.



In other news, the October Grindin chart is up for your viewing pleasure. And though I forgot to vote this month (soil), this is one of my favorite Grindin charts to date. Both the "Heads Will Roll" remix and "King of Africa" are top tracks for me in darn near every situation. So versatile.

Dizzee + T-Pain + T-Swizzy

I posted up a video of Dizzee Rascal's "Holiday" a hot minute ago. Then XL (or some other fussy goober) got a wee bit angry and had the video taken off of YouTube. Boo. Hoo. The video's nothing special, but jeez - the song is remarkable and the ladies are splendid.



And then there's this Taylor Swift disaster and a half that I somehow missed until now. Yea, I get it. Parody of "Love Story." Blah, blah, blah, whatever. But if you're gonna poke fun (whether it's at yourself or another) and it's gonna be very much in the public eye (as most things involving T-Pain are), at least take the time to make it both a) funny and b) well put together. Yeesh.

Wale + Lady Gaga + Wideboys

I got sick of "Chillin" pretty quickly. I got sick of the successive Benzi and Skratch Bastid remixes even faster. While Wale has released some great mix tapes (100 Miles & Running and The Mixtape About Nothing), his latest commercial effort with Allido/Interscope is less than memorable. Where is the dude who rapped about spreading go-go music, wearing camo shorts and flip-flops with a Grammy dangling around his neck (to clarify: I do not support go-go music in any way)? Where others have failed to remix this into a memorable drop, Wideboys have given this track energy and a progression that is catchier than a Taylor Swift hook.
