Horrifying Trends That I Love #8

Hello there lovelies,

It's been a while since my last fashion confession, and how could I continue to deprive you of my ramblings about things like shredded t-shirts, and owls? Besides, there is no way that anyone in the world anywhere, ever, could not share my love for this trend:

Rompers/jumpsuits of course! Sidenote: good old friend Google is telling me that "romper" refers to the sort-legged variety, and "jumpsuit" to the long-legged variety. If this is correct, then I learned something new today, and have spent most of my life insulting rompers by calling them jumpsuits. Either way, I find them totally adorable, stylish, and (God forbid) even somewhat practical. Wearing one of these babies you look as classy as you would wearing a dress BUT YOU HAVE PANTS ON. Am I the only one who finds this notion incredible? Or the only one who finds it amazing because I always forget that I can't bend over while wearing a dress?

Also, until tonight I never realised what a jumpsuit/romper shopping wet-dream Etsy is - but seriously, check this shit out:

Click on the photos to visit the Etsy listings.

On a note somewhat related to this post, I may or may not have purchased a navy polka-dotted romper from work today. On a similarly related note, I may or may not plan to wear it on my next trip to Hervey Bay in order to scare the locals. Pfft, who am I kidding. We all know that I wholeheartedly support scaring the locals anywhere, anytime - and if there are jumpsuits & rompers involved, then all the better.

So, where do you stand? Are you a fan of the combined top & pants/shorts? Do jumpsuits/rompers make you want to dry-retch, or dry-hump? The Boyfriend is as yet undecided. He thinks they can look good, but is not entirely sold on them being more practical than dresses. Care to prove him wrong?

Until next time, xo.

Horrifying Trends That I Love #7

Hello there lovelies,

Time for yet another horrifying fashion confession - just take me to the shredder baby. And by that, of course, I mean that I have an obsession with shredded t-shirts. I think they balance perfectly on that line between trashy and trashy. They're a little bit bad-ass (well, you are wearing shredded clothing), and a little bit couture (do you know how long it takes to make one of these bitches?). This is a love affair that has been in the making ever since I was a tenth-grader cutting holes in my jeans. Plus, it's a love affair that looks at least a little classier. Just in case you don't believe me, I have supplied photo evidence:

How can you argue with that much awesome? No really, tell me. I don't understand how you could argue with those pictures. So weigh in guys! What's your take on the shredded t-shirt? Classy or classless? Holy, or just plain holey?

Until next time, xo.

P.S. If you're crazy like me and want to make one of these, check out this tute.

Horrifying Trends That I Love #6

Hello there lovelies,

It's that time again. The time where some godforsaken trend sneaks it's sneaky way up on me, and all of a sudden BAM - I'm obsessed. It's a horrific cycle, and one not easily escaped by someone who works in retail. This time it's a little strange though. Perhaps even stranger than my obsession with harem pants, and heart-shaped sunglasses. I'm obsessed with owls. That's right, owls. On everything. Owl print t-shirts, owls on jewellery, owl-shaped hats. Well, actually, I'm yet to see an owl-shaped hat, but if I did I'd probably fall in love with it. Has anyone else noticed the plethora of owl-related fashion objects popping up all over the place? Just in case you missed the owl memo, here are a few cute owlish things to help you start your own obsessions.

Owl Ring by yakarina.

Owl Pocket Watch Necklace by lifelittle.

Owl Mary Janes by EmandSprout.

What's your verdict guys? Are you also feeling the owl love, or are you thinking I've finally taken too many antibiotics this week? I figure someone else out there must be with me, because there are seriously about 10 t-shirts available at my work with owl prints, as well as piece of owl jewellery. Plus, regardless of their fashion abilities, owls are beautiful animals. However, I am also willing to accept the idea that I am just crazy, because lets face it, that's just the plain truth. Let me know anyway, because I'll have to tell The Boyfriend whether or not to ship me off to the crazy house with a trunk-full of owl-related goodies.

Until next time, xo.

Horrifying Trends That I Love #5

Hello there lovelies,

It has been a while since my last confession, although this one is not all that surprising. I have to admit it. I am obsessed with Doc Martens. Completely, utterly, unstoppably obsessed with Doc Martens. I think my pre-teen self cried with joy when they began to make their way back into fashion magazines and onto the feet of the "hip crowd". The return of good old Docs seemed to be rather polarising though - some people were singing their praises from the rooftops, and others desperately trying to fight them back into their coffins. I am one of the people who is going to be crazily trying to save enough money to buy a few of the crazy new pairs before they go out of style again. Currently my eyes are on a patent lime green pair, a tartan pair, and a floral pair (you know, in order to link two of the horrifying trends I love). You see, I am pretty sure that if I had a shoe wardrobe full of Doc Martens that I would never want for shoes again. This is because they are without a doubt the most versatile shoes in the universe. You don't believe me, check this out.
Going to a festival like Soundwave? This pair has your name all over them.
Are you Torrance Shipman, and in desperate need of shoes for your cheerleading tryouts? Go with this white and pink pair.
Going to a rave, or needing to entertain some small children/adults obsessed with shiny objects? Then these are the Docs for you.
In my opinion, these bony ones are perject for meeting your partners family. But if you're less crazy than me, you could just wear them to the shops and count all the strange looks you get.

Hello there, these are the perfect Doc Martens for space travel. Or, if you don't have a Paris-Hilton-sized bank account, you could don them whenever you feel like doing the moonwalk.

Well there, that brings you the main reason why I love Doc Martens - despite their humble origins, they are available in so many colours and styles that it will make your head spin. They are hard-wearing and a little bit badass, but also stylish. Plus, if you ever need to kick the crap out of someone they'll come in handy. What do you think lovelies? Are you Doc lovers or haters?

Until next time, xo.

Horrifying Trends That I Love #4

Hello lovelies,

I'm here with another embarrassing trend-related confession. Right now, I'm really in love with floral prints. That's right, floral prints. The self-confessed tomboy, who has barely stepped outside of the black/tartan box is in love with clothes covered in flowers. I've never been big on floral prints before - in fact, I've been known to screw up my nose in a very ugly fashion, or run screaming in the other direction. But they've won me over with the black-based floral prints that seem to be doing the rounds at the moment. Lately the floral prints I've been seeing seem to be more funky, and less princess than usual. Black, bold colours - and at work I've been seeing the floral print mixed with exposed zippers, studs and at like, which are all completely up my alley. Here's a few of the floral-printed things that really take my fancy:

Floral Stuff

Perhaps I'm turning into a girl after all? Hah, or not.

Until next time, xo.

Horrifying Trends That I Love #3

Hello lovelies,

Here I am with yet another shocking style confession - I love heart-shaped sunglasses.

And what a confusing love this is! I don't know what it is about them, and I am actually yet to purchase a pair. Personally, I think this confession could seriously damage my "street cred". I know that it may be supreme madness for anyone over the age of three to wear these things, and yet I'm itching to get my hands on a pair. I have a sneaking suspicion that this obsession may be due to my seemingly innate love of anything that makes me look stranger than I already do - which, I must add would explain my recent desire for a pair of these sunglasses:

But then, I also think that a pair of strangely-shaped sunglasses (whether hearts, apples, or the various other novelty designs available are your thing) can add interest, and an element of fun to otherwise boring outfits. Besides it would take a fair bit of confidence to whack a pair of these babies onto your face don't you reckon? What's your take? Are heart-shaped sunglasses a little too Lolita for you, or a quirky addition to your wardrobe? Either way I'll be over here in my corner loving the face-love.

Until next time, xo.

Horrifying Trends That I love #2 - Gossip Girl

Hello there lovelies,

I can't believe it's Sunday already, and here I am with another shocking confession. I'm totally addicted to this utterly horrible television show/phenomenon. That's right, I'm talking about Gossip Girl. It all started with a free DVD on the front of Dolly magazine. I mean I had to watch it, it was free! After that I spent the next week counting down until the first series was released on DVD, then ran out and bought it on the day it came out. THEN, I spent the entire weekend while The Boyfriend was at work watching the entire series back to back. Oh the shame, oh the horror. I think I've watched the whole series another ten times since then. I am in serious need of a GG Anonymous Meeting, or an intervention or something. There's just something about shocking drama, impossible lifestyles and freaking fabulous outfits all thrown together with an evil edge that makes this show better than the average teen offering. Without further ado, (and before I make much more of an ass of myself), it's gratuitous pictures of what makes me love Gossip Girl time. Enjoy!

"I'm Chuck Bass."

"Haven't you heard? I'm the crazy bitch around here."

Maybe Jenny isn't the most exciting character, but she does get the best outfits.

Did I mention outfits?

Until next time, xo.

Horrifying Trends That I love #1.

Hello, my name is Stacey and I'm addicted to harem pants.

Yes, you know, the pants once only rocked by Princess Jasmine from the Disney movie Aladdin and MC Hammer. Oh, did I laugh at MC Hammer and his puffy pants. Oh, did I laugh when I saw harem pants start to appear on models, celebrities and catwalks everywhere. And, oh boy did I laugh when they started being held up as the "must buy" item in fashion magazines everywhere. Then, one day much like any other, I went to work and something incredibly strange happened.

I looked at a pair of harem pants, and thought oh my god, I have to have them.

I went to the change rooms on my lunch break, tried them on and, surprisingly, was still convinced buying them was a good idea. I took them home, tried them on. They still seemed like a good idea. And then after I wore them for three days straight, I went and bought another pair in a different colour. The harem pants had converted me. In my defense, they aren't particularly "out there" pairs of pants - only a slight harem going on. Nowhere near as puffy as MC Hammer's pants. Certainly more in the realm of Princess Jasmine, and come on, we all know Princess Jasmine is hot. Or maybe that's just me.

Here's some reasons why I like these crazy pants:

1. As previously mentioned, they are slightly crazy. And anything that makes me look more crazy can only help right? Harem pants are a little out there, and they take some confidence to pull off. Wearing them kind of inspires me to be more confident.

2. They're super comfy! I don't think I've ever worn such a comfortable pair of pants. As important as it is to look good in what you wear, comfort is a big factor for me - so if it looks good and is comfortable too, then it's pretty much a win right up.

3. They're versatile. I've dressed mine up to go to dinner, down to laze at home and in the middle for a day at the shops. They've been paired with t-shirts, sandals, button up tops, boots, hats and pretty much everything else I own with a great level of success.

4. If you pick the right pair, they really flatter your hips/thighs - obviously not if you buy an exact copy of MC Hammer's pants. But the right pair will skim over areas that most of us love to hate.

5. They're loose enough that you can wear Mitch Dowd girl boxers under them. I am completely in love with them, but since they're like little shorts you can't really wear them with most womens pants. Ok, this reason may only apply to me. But I can't help it if I love cute short-like underwear with aliens printed on them!

So, maybe there's not actually that much of a justification for why the harem pants trend suddenly grew on me the way that it did - but hey, why try and explain true love? And if you don't agree, I'll be happy over here in my corner, chilling in my harem pants. I'll probably be far more comfortable than you too. To finish up, here's a couple of cool ways to rock harem pants. At least, if you're as insane as I am. Hope you enjoy.
