FASTER, PUSSYCAT! KILL! KILL! - Did You Know?

Trivia Compiled By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: IMDB / Wikipedia

It is commonly known that what one person considers to be a great movie may not be so great to others. Many of us have guilty pleasures in the realm of cinema that make others scratch their heads and mutter "wtf"? Certain aspects of a film may speak to one person yet be totally lost on another. One man's treasure is another man's trash and so on.

Such a film is the 1965 Russ Meyer classic (?) "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" which to me is one of those afore mentioned type of films. Why do I like it so much? Well ... I can only surmise that it has something to so with cleavage and violence. It may also have something to do with it being a great "quote movie" like "Army of Darkness", "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Shaun of the Dead".

"I never try anything. I just do it. And I don't beat clocks, just people! Wanna try me?"

Then again there is only one name that you need to know, Tura Satana. If you don't know who that is you sure will never be able to forget her after watching "Faster, Pussycat!".

Did you know?

The film was shot in the extreme western parts of the Mojave Desert. However, some of the scenes appear to have been filmed farther east, near Baker, California. The last scenes in the film were made west of California City. The rail line running between Mojave and Trona, California is clearly evident.

Lead actress Tura Satana, legally owns her likeness and image. So, whenever Russ Meyer wanted to change the artwork or re-release the project, he had to get her permission and sometimes pay her all over again.

Russ Meyer named the movie like this because he claims that a movie has everything when it contains speed (faster), sex (pussycat) and violence(kill, kill).

In the beginning of the movie, when Billie detours to go to the lake, the front driver's side wheel cover is missing, and looks like some minor front end damage in the same area, which can be seen when she pulls up and stops next to the bush at the lake. Later on in the film, the wheel cover is present and there is no damage to the car.

When Billie and Rosie are fighting in the dirt after being in the lake, Billie's hair appears much shorter than it does in other scenes.

During the dinner scene, Billie is eating a leg and thigh of chicken but when the shot changes to behind the old man she's eating a cob of corn.

After Varla cuts the fence and gets back into her car, look at the rear side window. Crew member with hat is briefly visible in the reflection.

After Rosie and Varla take out The Old Man with the Porsche, the front license plate is shown hanging down. Later, when the Porsche is shown approaching The Vegetable, the license plate is back in place.

Gas Station Attendant: [staring down at Varla's cleavage as he pumps gas] Just passing through, huh? Boy, that motor's sure hot! You gals really must have been moving on these little machines. Yessir, the thrill of the open road. New places, new people, new sights of interest. Now that's what I believe in, seeing America first!
Varla: You won't find it down there, Columbus!

And now you know!

Just When You Thought It Was Safe Along Comes A Bigfoot Porno

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Bill Burke

Oh how the Bigfoot movie craze continues unabated! It seems like over the past few years every independent film maker on the planet has taken a shot at producing a Sasquatch themed horror movie. Now film maker Bill Burke has taken the genre in yet another direction with a crypto themed adult film. Yes you heard me right, a Bigfoot porn movie.

Dig this tagline: "You know what they say about guys with big feet!"

I present for your titillation, "Sweet Prudence & The Erotic Adventures Of Bigfoot" a new erotic-comedy-adventure that, according to the films website, started out as a comic book. Now I have never seen this comic wedged on any rack between Batman and the Fantastic Four so I'll just have to take their word on that.

Maybe I should find a more open minded comic shop?

Anyway Burke described his creation in an email to yours truly as "...a new film featuring that audience favorite monster Bigfoot, along with that other audience favorite element - gratuitous nudity."

That pretty much sums it up.

From the trailer, which unfortunately for you I can't post here, I can tell you that "Sweet Prudence" is your typical adult film with plenty of boobs, oral sex ... a lot of oral sex actually, girl on girl action and people getting it on right and left. Of course the million dollar question is "does Bigfoot get any?" I can tell you that indeed Sasquatch scores, a lot, even with Sweet Prudence as if you didn't see that coming. (No pun intended)

You may be surprised to learn that many famous movie monsters have starred in adult films over the decades. Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man and The Mummy have all shared scenes with naked women in various films (not to mention all the lesbian vampire features produced mostly in the 70s and 80s) so it seems that it was about time for Bigfoot to do a Ron Jeremey impression as well.

Here is the plot (yes some porn movies have plots):

When two beautiful girls (Faye and Ginger), working at a remote country resort encounter the mythical giant known as Bigfoot it sets off a chain of comedic events. Prudence a beautiful young woman, her best friend Veruca, and college buddy Mike set out to take the perfect photo of Bigfoot; one which will allow Prudence to finally get her degree in Cryptozoology.

Their quest takes them to the Cottontail resort, a nudist camp run by a beautiful “flower child”, aptly named Flower. Flower’s remaining assistant Ginger, who previously encountered Bigfoot assists our hunters. But Bigfoot is continuously watching them in both their public, and private moments, while occasionally seizing the opportunity to steal electronic equipment.

Their quest is often sidetracked by an array of erotic encounters amidst the beautiful countryside. Despite the erotic entanglements Prudence finds the time to develop affection for the misunderstood hairy giant, and wants to ensure nobody harms it. Her attempts to communicate with Bigfoot lead to amazing, and hilarious revelations about the legendary creature, who’s much more worldly, or rather otherworldly than anyone ever gave him credit for.

SWEET PRUDENCE & THE EROTIC ADVENTURE OF BIGFOOT is like a racy adult comic book come to life ala the cult classic Barbarella.

Look for "Sweet Prudence & The Erotic Adventures Of Bigfoot" to premiere on Cinemax in April of 2012.

Here are some photos from the film, which unfortunately for you I couldn't post most of them:

Asian Girl On Girl Vampire Action In EMPRESS VAMPIRE

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Sources: Avery Guerra / Empress Vampire via Facebook

It has been a long time since I posted anything about a kinky, cheesy, horror flick so when I found a link in my inbox from my pal Avery Guerra about a little film called "Empress Vampire" I decided to once again take a walk on the naughty side.

From watching the trailer one can only assume that the film is nothing more than a showcase for plenty of hot Asian lesbian scenes mixed in with a fair amount of blood and gore. Who would expect anything less? Right?

Though this type of film is not necessarily my cup of tea, I have learned through the years that MIN readers really dig vampires ..... especially sexy Asian ones who feed off of sexy white girls.

Consider this one community service.

Your Welcome ...

Here is the plot:

The revelry of an upscale Halloween party is shattered by gunshots when two armed robbers attempt to fleece the well-to-do patrons of their money and jewels. A diminutive cloaked figure steps out from the crowd and despite being shot multiple times, effortlessly dispenses with the thieves. These superhuman feats do not go unnoticed and when news of them reaches the Secretary of Defense, Arthur Hayes (Tom Cochran), he dispatches FBI Agent Dan Higgins (Beau Nelson) to track the figure down.

Higgin’s quest turns ominous when he discovers he is attempting to track down a vampire, but not just any vampire - the Empress Vampire (Ange Maya), the source from which all other vampires descended!

Higgins then enlists the aid of Ivor Helsing, a vampire hunter (Garrett Brawith), and Ariana , a psychic (Laura Contenescue), who are also intent on tracking the Empress down.

The Empress Vampire is no ordinary vampire. She craves more than mere blood. She is carnal as well as carnivorous and sexually exhausts her prey before satisfying her need for their blood. As she kills, the Empress savagely mutilates her victims and toys with their entrails.

But is she the evil one, or is she being sought by a more malevolent force?

Not for the squeamish or easily-offended. Empress Vampire is a journey into darkness – the darkness of ancient evil, the darkness of human greed, and the darkness of the perversion of the Empress Vampire.

Hey .... you had better see this one or some crazy ..... hot ... Asian vampire chick will come find you and pull out your eyes!

Here is the trailer plus some more photos from "Empress Vampire":

Moore Girl (Raven) Polystone Statue Sculpture:

This item has features and themes that are for adults only. Ages 18 and up. Recommended for mature collectors.

The Moore Girl… an animated classic!
Raven Moore Girl Polystone Statue based on the work of artist Fred Moore.
Stands over 9-inches tall.
The bombshell centerpiece addition to any collection!

Primarily known as a premiere animator for such studios as Disney and Walter Lantz, Fred Moore was equally famous for his drawings of alluring females. Based on his provocative sketches, this sensational Raven Moore Girl Polystone Statue is exquisitely sculpted by Kent Melton and will serve as a bombshell centerpiece addition to any collection! It stands approximately 9 1/4-inches tall.

"Freddie Girls"-- pinup babes drawn by Fred Moore primarily in the 1940s-- were mostly nude, and they utilized all of Moore's talents for fluidity, charm, appeal, and great posing, although channeled for a slightly different purpose. Only glimmers of them got to the screen ("All the Cats Join In" in Make Mine Music and the centaurettes in the Pastoral Symphony section of Fantasia), but they were so well known and admired by animation artists that they are as much a part of animation history as the classic work that continues to inspire to this day.

A Tribute To Tura Satana (1938 - 2011)

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: NY Times

The cult movie genre lost one of it's most infamous icons on Friday when actress Tura Satana passed away from heart failure. The 73-year-old actress was the star of some of the most notable independent films of the 1960s and 70s including "The Astro Zombies", "The Doll Squad" and "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!". Satana's portrayal of Varla in the Russ Meyer film would forever establish the Japanese born Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi (Real Name) as a pop culture icon.

To say that Satana lead a full and colorful life would be an understatement. As a young woman she had to endure the tribulation of being held in a Japanese internment camp in California. At thirteen she began a career as an exotic dancer after she developed the curvy figure that helped propel her to stardom. After that she became a nude model and then actress. At one point she even dated Elvis and turned down his marriage proposal.

In later life Satana continued to act and enjoyed interaction with her legions of fans at conventions and special appearances.

According to Tura's long-time manager Siouxzan Perry a memorial service will be held on July 10th which would have been her 74th birthday.

Fans by the hudreds have been leaving heart-felt messages of love for Tura on her Facebook page. If you would like to express your feelings about her life and career you can do so at: http://www.facebook.com/tsatana

Here is Tura Satana's bio (From Wikipedia):

Tura Satana (July 10, 1938 – February 4, 2011) was a Japanese-born American actress and former exotic dancer. She was best known for her role as "Varla" in Russ Meyer's 1965 cult film, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!.

Satana was born Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi in Hokkaidō, Japan. Her father was a silent movie actor of Japanese and Filipino descent, and her mother was a circus performer of American Indian (Cheyenne) and Scots-Irish background. After the end of World War II and a stint in the Manzanar internment camp in Lone Pine, California, she and her family moved to the Westside of Chicago. She developed breasts very early and, despite being an excellent student, was constantly harassed for her figure and Asian heritage. Walking home from school at the age of nine she was gang raped by five men. Her attackers were never prosecuted and it was rumored that the judge had been paid off. This prompted her to learn the martial arts of aikido and karate and, over the next 15 years, track down each rapist and exact revenge. "I made a vow to myself that I would someday, somehow get even with all of them," she said years later. "They never knew who I was until I told them."

Because of the rape and the bribed judge, she was sent to reform school as a teenager and became the leader of a gang. In an interview with Psychotronic Video, she said, "We had leather motorcycle jackets, jeans and boots and we kicked butt." At 13, she was married in Hernando, Mississippi, a short-lived union arranged by her parents and the family of her 17-year-old groom.

Satana then came to Los Angeles at age 13 with a fake ID and tried her hand at blues singing. When that failed, she started modeling as a bathing suit photography model and posed nude for the silent screen comic Harold Lloyd, who did not know she was underage. Lloyd told Satana she should be in films because she was photogenic. While working as a photographic model, Satana contracted makeup poisoning and could not wear any makeup due to the ensuing skin erosions. She returned to Chicago to live with her parents and started dancing. Satana danced at the Club Rendevouz in Calumet City, Illinois, where she was known as Galatea, the Statue that Came to Life. She was offered a raise to become a stripper. She eventually became a successful exotic dancer, traveling from city to city and working with Rose Le Rose, Maxine Martin, The Skyscraper Girl, Tempest Storm, Candy Barr and Stunning Smith the Purple Lady. Satana credited Lloyd with giving her the confidence to pursue a career in show business: "I saw myself as an ugly child." Mr. Lloyd said, "You have such a symmetrical face, the camera loves your face... you should be seen." Because of her dancing, her face, and her figure, she was ultimately voted one of the 10 Best Undressed Burlesque Dancers of the 20th Century by Bill Hanna of Hanna-Barbera.

At 19, Satana got pregnant, but continued dancing for the next eight months, earning a typical weekly salary of about $1,500

During her early career, Satana appeared on television shows such as Burke's Law, The Greatest Show On Earth, Hawaiian Eye, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. She also appeared as a dancer in Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? with Dean Martin and Elizabeth Montgomery. That same year, she had a cameo as a Parisian prostitute in the musical Irma La Douce with Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine.

After starring in Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Satana worked mainly with cult film director Ted V. Mikels in such films as The Astro-Zombies (1968), The Doll Squad (1974) and Mark of the Astro-Zombies (2002). She has also appeared as herself in various documentaries and TV shows including The Incredibly Strange Film Show (1988), A & E's documentary called "Cleavage"(2003),Strip de velours (2005) and Sugar Boxx (2007) which is currently in post production and co-stars fellow Russ Meyer alumna Kitten Natividad.

After making Ted V. Mikels' The Doll Squad in 1973, Satana was shot by a former lover. She later found employment in a hospital, a position she kept for four years. She had studied nursing at Firmin Deloos Hospital. She was then briefly employed as a dispatcher for the Los Angeles Police Department. In 1981, her back was broken in a car accident. She spent the next two years in and out of hospitals, having two major operations and approximately fifteen others.

Satana dated Elvis Presley but turned down his marriage proposal, though she did keep the ring. Satana married a retired Los Angeles police officer in 1981, and remained married until her husband died in October 2000. She has two daughters from a previous relationship. Her older daughter Kalani had a cameo role in Mikels' Ten Violent Women. She had remained friends with Mikels till her death.

The Mighty Peking Man (1977)(Shaw Brothers Studio)

Written By: Ken Hulsey

It is amazing how Asian movie makers have always had a love affair with "King Kong." Just after original film made it's debut in 1933, the Japanese movie studio Shochiku released "Wasei Kingu Kongu", a direct rip-off of the American film, which featured a man in a monster costume (pre-Gojira) running amok. A mere five years later, in 1938, the same Japanese studio would release "Edo Ni Arawarita Kingu Kongu", which featured the giant ape during the samurai era. I have been informed that both of these films are lost and very little is known about them.

A couple of decades later, producer Tomoyuki Tanaka and director Ishiro Honda would aspire to create their own Japanese version of "Kong." That film would eventually turn into the classic monster epic, "Gojira" (Godzilla), after it was decided to change the title character from a giant 'fire-breathing' ape, to a dinosaur inspired by "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms."

Despite the success of "Gojira" (Godzilla), Tanaka and Honda would eventually get their chance to feature the giant ape in two films produced by Toho, the first, pitting the monster against their own creation in "King Kong vs Godzilla", then again in "King Kong Escapes." Despite popular belief to the contrary, "King Kong Escapes" was not a sequel to "KK vs G", but a live action movie based on a children's animated series about Kong that was a huge hit in Japan at the time.

That leads us to the 1977 Shaw Brothers film "The Mighty Peking Man", a film that was influenced by both "King Kong" and the Japanese monster films produced by Tanaka and Honda.

In 1976 Dino De Laurentiis had scored a big hit internationally with their re-make of "King Kong", which starred Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, and Jessica Lange. The Hong Kong based Shaw Brothers Studio wanted to catch the wave of "Kong's" popularity by producing their own giant ape film. Not wanting to pay for the rights to use the name "King Kong" the studio created their own monster who was inspired by both the early human ancestor, the "Peking Man", and the legendary Yeti of Himalayan folklore.

Director Ho Meng Hua and special effects man Sadamasa Arikawa would borrow a page from Japanese legend Eiji Tsuburaya's book when it came to shooting scenes featuring the monster. The emulation of Tsuburaya's techniques in monster film making are unmistakable, low angle camera placement (to make the monster look huge), slowed down film speed (to produce the illusion of size and mass) and highly detailed miniature sets, are all his trademarks.

Despite having a ten-story tall Yeti in the film, the real star of "The Mighty Peking Man" is the Soviet born actress Evelyn Kraft, who plays Samantha, a young woman who was raised by the monster after her parents are killed in a plane crash. Director Ho Meng Hua knew exactly what he had in casting the actress, who previously had made a name for herself on German television, a sexy blond who would put male viewers in theater seats.

The director would use Kraft's sex appeal to the fullest. He dressed the actress in next to nothing, then had her run and climb her way around the jungle. I'm sure it didn't hurt that every once and a while the actresses breasts would slip out of her costume while she was running or if she mooned the audience when she climbed up a tree. That was what she was there for, eye-candy.

Honestly, "The Mighty Peking Man" is a Tarzan story sandwiched between a monster movie. Granted, the film begins and ends with the monster running amok, but the story in between is a different breed of film. After all is said and done, you walk away remembering the sexy Kraft, not the ten-story-tall Yeti.

That being said, I should point out that the "Peking Man" isn't a lame monster. He stomps the crap out some Indian villagers in the beginning of the film, and he destroys Peking at the end.

The effects are pretty good as well.

It is just a fact that Kraft's Samantha character gets more screen time and the story, for the most part, centers on her. You just can't get around it. Heck, even on the movie poster for the film, it her image that is the largest. The monster is only seen in the background.

A party from Hong Kong exploring the Indian side of the Himalayan mountains discover the eponymous Peking Man, a gigantic ape-like creature, along with a beautiful blond woman named Samantha (Evelyn Kraft) whose parents had been killed in a plane crash. Samantha was raised by Utam (the Peking Man) with nothing to wear but an animal-skin bikini (which she later continues to wear in preference to the type of women's clothing more common in Hong Kong). Like Tarzan, she has learned both to swing through the trees on vines and to communicate with and command the jungle animals, with the exception of a venomous snake who bites her on the inner thigh, requiring the hero, Johnny (Danny Lee), to suck out the poison. Shortly thereafter, they fall in love.

Johnny and his partners bring Samantha and Utam to Hong Kong, where Utam goes on display to the incredulous public. Johnny, meanwhile, reconciles with the girlfriend whose romantic betrayal with his brother had been the impetus behind his sudden decision to explore the Himalayas. Samantha sees this and runs off, nearly getting raped. Utam goes berserk and squashes the rapist, then runs off with Samantha to the tallest building he can find (namely the Jardine House), climbs it, and is burned/shot to death by several helicopters in a scene greatly reminiscent of the ending of King Kong, and falls off. Samantha is killed in an explosion during the conflict, and Johnny receives what appears to be a very minor gunshot wound to the lower leg.

Ever since it's release in 1977, "The Mighty Peking Man" has been rarely seen, until recently, by audiences outside Asia. In 1999 Quentin Tarantino re-released the film in American theaters. Despite some positive reviews, the film bombed miserably.

Over the past year the film has been shown on the Independent Film Channel (IFC) cable network.
