Eye Candy: Yang Du AW12 Collection

Images from here & here.

It's been a while since I featured the work of any designers on my blog, and honestly I think that's because designer collections don't blow me away very often. Yang Du's AW12 collection completely freakin' blew me away. Bright colours & owl prints combined with bold crazy makeup & cute hair? Yes please. I'm even ok with the nude pumps, because they don't detract from the amazing dresses.

"Yang Du’s collection for AW12 featured quirky designs inspired by the animal kingdom, seen through the colourful eyes of a child. Apart from the drawings of animals the collection featured different styles of dresses; short and tight and loose with wide sleeves. Black and white owls, flamingos with blue beeks, green-eyed owls, giraffe or hippopotamus backpacks, purple red and yellow tigers, colourful zebras, crocodile-faced scarf, and blue hippopotamus beanie, were some outfits shown in Du’s playful show." - FASHION156

I know that some of you are probably sitting there thinking "But, what would you wear them with?", and my answer is simple - everything! You could wear these dresses exactly as they are, or you could wear them with colourful tights & a pair of bright Dr Martens. You could wear them as tunics over leggings, or jeans. You could wear the floatier designs as cover-ups at the beach, or layer the slim-fitted versions under skirts. I think these pieces would be amazing dressed up or down, understated, or totally out there, casual or formal.

I think it's safe to say that if I could get my hands on one of these Yang Du designs, it would never come off. I would probably sleep in it, and refuse to remove it until the entire town started to complain about the smell & threaten to have me committed. What do you think of these unique designs?

Eye Candy

Hello there lovelies,

It's good old Friday, and we've come to the end of another excruciatingly painful week. Or it that last part just me? All I know is that one of the best things to end a week with is pictures of pretty clothes. Or is that part also just me? Probably. Nonetheless, I assault your eyes with the Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2011 collection. PREPARE FOR EPIC PATTERN MIXING.

There were probably dresses involved in this collection as well, but I'm much more partial to this "I raided my extremely eccentric boyfriend/gay man friend's wardrobe, and miraculously came out looking this damn good" variation of the look. I'm still scared of mixing patterns in my own day-to-day wear, for fear of looking ridiculous. But this collection says there is hope for all us crazy pattern-loving cat ladies yet!

Until next time, xo.

Eye Candy - Versus

Hello there lovelies,

If I didn't love Tavi of Style Rookie before, I certainly would now that she has introduced me to the Versus SS11 collection. DROOLDROOLDROOL. Of course, I did love Tavi before, but check out these clothes guys!

But, what are good clothes without freaking amazing accessories?

Image.

Nom nom nom. If this collection was some kind of tasty confectionary I would eat it all up. Or you know, since it's clothes, I guess I could just wear them or something?

Until next time, xo.

Eye Candy

Hello there lovelies,

I try not to dwell too heavily on big name designers and brands in this blog, but every now and then someone will inspire me so much that I can't help talking about it. One of those designers (or two) that inspire me are Kate and Laura Mulleavy, and their creations for their brand Rodarte. Their website archives are full of eccentric, amazing designs and I'm pretty sure their Spring 2011 collection is what fairy princesses would wear if they lived in New York City.

All images.

My favourites are the blue designs, but the brown ones are beautiful as well. I love the intricate bodice detailing, the matching shoes, and interesting shapes in this collection. All Rodarte pieces are gorgeous and original. You can't help but notice that great deal of work and care goes into each piece. I am inspired by the originality of the designs, and the attention to detail that goes into this brand. Hats off to Kate & Laura Mulleavy!

Until next time, xo.

Get Me A Drool Rag...

Hey there lovelies,

Usually I am a terrible fashion follower, with exactly no idea who or what is walking the runway at any given time. But, there are a few designers/brands that I love and find super inspiring. One of my favourites is Balmain. A few years ago, when I actually started paying attention to who designed the clothes in ladies mags, I quickly realised that almost everything I immediately fell in love with was Balmain. Of course, their Spring/Summer 2011 Collection is no disappoinment.

So much love for the studded jackets, and cut-off shorts that feature heavily in this collection (incidently, I also really adore the haircut of this model).

Holy freaking amazing corset Batman! I think this piece may have been created from my adolescent hopes and dreams, at a time when I was famous for always having a safety pin on me. I'm also loving the crazy capris.

I'll just take this whole look please! One of these shirts would be so easy to DIY though. Jeeves, bring me a t-shirt, scissors and a bucket of saftey pins!

I affectionately call this look "Zombie Gladiator". I would love to recreate this skirt, and once I've sat down to think about it a bit I might even try it. From memory, there are a few similar tops to this in the collection as well, and I really love them.

Oh expressionless model, do you realise how close you are to having that jacket stolen? I don't think you do. I really like the classy but trashy feel of the white studded jackets. To me it says "I was on my way to a black tie ball, but I got bored and decided to hang with The Sex Pistols instead."

Now, just in case that's not enough Balmain for your eyes, take a look at this video of the collection (via Max California).

If you don't need a drool rag by now, then you're pretty much dead to me. And if you do, come over here! I've got plenty of spares. I've got to be prepared for future Balmain collections you know.

Until next time, xo.
