Audiotistic

I headed down to LA this weekend to hit up the Audiotistic Festival, which is sort of the younger cousin of the Electric Daisy Carnival. It was a much smaller event, but the line-up was sufficiently top-notch and the production, for its size, was some of the most organized I've ever seen at an electronic event. With raves (I don't think I'm ready to call them Electronic Dance Music Events just yet) getting a lot of shit in the media these days, it's nice to go to a show where the promoters really have it together.

First up was a Kill the Noise x Donald Glaude back to back set. Mostly missed KTN, but we came through in time to watch Donald sweat out the packed room. Once that stage segued into a prog/trance bonanza (don't get me wrong, I have mad love for all my trance-heads), we moved to the Sound Arcade, which seemed to have the coolest stage setup and the least number of people in the crowd.

From there, Riva Starr threw down a funky set of his signature house, gypsy drops and all, as the audience built up. Then A-Trak put down the best big-room set I've ever seen him play, with the perfect balance of electro bangers and flawless turntablist micro-routines. As it was just about time to head back to the hotel, Treasure Fingers came in and closed out the night with his synth-drenched disco goodness. I wish I had something more controversial to say, but every DJ we saw came and crushed it.

Donald Glaude getting mad with the crowd
Foooooooools Gooooold
Slow Roast in the house!

To make the weekend even more special, I had the opportunity to end my trip at the Do Over. The Do Over is a Sunday-afternoon weekly at this little restaurant/bar in LA where a trio of residents and handful of guest DJs play classic sets in this tiny fenced-in backyard (really, tiny) while burgers get flipped in the front and the line on the street grows like some kind of bottle service ish. However, with Audiotistic and LA being LA, this was a particularly special Sunday.

On the lineup we had an all-vinyl house set from the Juan Maclean (while eating a burger, I might add; pretty sure the dude's name isn't really Juan though). Then Craze came through with a crowd-pleasing hip-hop routine, rocking everything from Ice Cube to Deja Vu. Nick Catchdubs picked up the sunset hour with an eclectic set of reggae jams (he played a lot more than that, but I can't just say he played everything, can I?), and while A-Trak was slated to close out the night, I needed to hop back in my car, delirious as all hell, and drive six hours back to San Francisco with one headlight. The things we do for music...

Fictional Style Icon - Samantha Carter

Hello there lovelies,

Now I'm going to say straight up, if you don't know who Samantha Carter is, then get out. No don't really, I like you here! But Captain/Major Samantha Carter has been one of my idols since my early childhood, when I first watched Stargate:SG1. Stop laughing, I'm completely serious! Carter is an Air Force Captain with a Ph.D in Theoretical Astrophysics, who joins SG1. SG1, of course, is a military team dedicated to visiting other planets with the help of a network of ancient alien devices, known as Stargates. Also, she looks pretty kick-ass in military gear.

Things we can learn from Samantha Carter:

  1. Brains will get you everywhere, and having brains doesn't mean you can't look good. Sam might be beautiful, but she is also brilliant. There isn't a good idea on the show that isn't hers, and yet she still looks great.
  2. You can indeed look feminine with short hair. It's all a matter of attitude and styling.
  3. You can do alot with a few good basics. Also, being limited to only a few colours - say, black and khaki - doesn't mean immediately looking dowdy.
  4. If you're going to be walking alot (say on the surfaces of unknown alien planets) wear suitable shoes!
  5. Perfecting a suitably intimidating "badass" pose (see below) really helps in a tight spot.

  6. There are situations where comfort and practicality win over style. Deal with it. Do you think Sam would still be alive if she tried escaping enemy fire wearing heels?
  7. Confidence is key. Sam never belittles her own achievements by suggesting that they aren't that important, or that anyone could have come up with the idea. She knows she's amazing and doesn't aplogise for it.
  8. Any good wardrobe has camo print hidden in it somewhere. You know what I mean.
  9. Make-up is an optional thing. If you don't like it, and don't want to wear it, then don't.
  10. A utility belt makes a pretty frickin' badass accessory. Just sayin', you know?

Anyway, everyone should go watch Stargate:SG1 now. Then you should do what The Boyfriend and I do, and sit up late having intense dicussions about physics, aliens, and why the hell Sam and Jack never got together properly. Rockin'.

Until next time, xo.

It's GODZILLA Vs TUFFZILLA In Court

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Courthouse News Service

Over the past couple of years the Japanese movie studio, Toho, has been more than willing to slap a lawsuit on anyone who creates anything that looks remotely like their iconic monster, "Godzilla".

In 2008 the Japanese movie company sued Subway (the fast-food sandwich franchise .... not the underground rail system) for putting a giant dinosaur, and a Japanese girl, in one of their commercials. Then in 2009 the studio went after Comcast Cable for putting a giant monster, who honestly looked a lot like "Godzilla", in one of their adds.

Now the target of Toho's monstrous lawyers is "Tuffzilla" a toy for dogs manufactured by VIP Products.

Now, I'm no lawyer, but it looks like Toho may have something to bitch about this time. As you can see from the photo provided, good old "Tuff-Z" looks a lot like "Big G". But is it enough of a likeness for such a lawsuit? As can be expected Toho says "Yes" and they intend on seeking damages and blocking VIP from selling the toy.

Honestly, it's not as much the look of the toy that has Toho all worked up, it's the verbiage in the company's advertising that has added fuel to this fire.

Here is an example:

TuffZilla - For decades the legendary Tuffzilla has ravaged villages, towns and cities alike. This unstoppable force was known worldwide. No one has been able to tame this terrible beast, until now... See who will win the epic battle between man’s best friend and one of man’s most feared enemies.

Ummm ....... well that sounds like a description of "Godzilla" alright.

In the end Toho will probably make VIP change the name of the toy and reword the adds, which just goes to prove that if you make anything that resembles "Godzilla" in any way, you had better talk to Toho's lawyers before you try and sell it.

Club Tokyo: A G-collectors' Database

by Armand Vaquer

Fans of any subject, genre or person tend to collect items associated with that particular passion. Godzilla (and kaiju) fans are no exception.

Some collect movie memorabilia such as posters, lobby cards and theater giveaways. Others will collect toys, action figures, VHS tapes, DVDs and other items.

There is one place where all Godzilla and kaiju collectors can get information on virtually all collectibles: Club Tokyo.

Club Tokyo is a website database in which all items are catalogued with a history of each item, including variants, are presented. It is overseen by Richard Cox, Mike Johnson and Bob Schneider.

Club Tokyo has been around since July 28, 1998 and it is constantly updated by Cox, Johnson and Schneider with the help from fan contributors. I've contributed a few items.

The site is broken down into different categories, such as figures, candy/capsule toys, theater exclusives, kits, prototypes, articles, paperwork, miscellaneous and reviews.

If there's been an item produced concerning Godzilla, Gamera or other kaiju, chances are it has been catalogued at Club Tokyo. If not, and you have the item, feel free to contribute the information on it!

So, if you are a collector of Godzilla and kaiju items, you will want to take a look at Club Tokyo. It is very easy to lose track of time while perusing it.

Their website is http://www.clubtokyo.org/

Bambounou + French Fries

The first Bambounou track I heard was "Coconut," a cut he produced with French Fries. The next was the two gents' remix of "Romane." I still love both songs deeply and dearly, so it's only fitting that I'm super stoked on the latter's remix of the former's "Nappy Head." Peep the track, then cop the Animism E.P. whenever and wherever it drops.

Thought For The Day...

Did my heart love till now?
Forswear it sight,
For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.
- Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Just saying a happy birthday to the person I love, cherish and adore. We grow stronger together with every year that passes, and he is my best friend. Love you beautiful.

Until next time, xo.

Grandchester Steamfest '10

Why hello there!

Well my dears, as it turns out I was so exhausted after my weekend of relaxation that I forgot to tell you all about it. Better late than never though! Here are my outfit shots & various pictures from Sunday, when The Boyfriend, some friends and I attended the Grandchester Steamfest. A fun day was had by all as we chased steam trains, examined old machines, and watched various interesting displays of things like blacksmithing. By the way, if blacksmithing wasn't a word before, it is now. Just so you know. Keep up with the times people!

Outfit Rundown:

Hat: Bought at a QPSR running day, $12.95
Jacket: Secondhand, $2
Singlet: Trade Secret (Lovable), $5
Pants: Jay Jays, $10
Boots: Target, $40

Yup, that's me from the side.

Here's a close-up of the buttons on my jacket. They are all special. The Freak Revolution one was sent to me from a very cool website, that also sent me a membership card. I'm a card-carrying member of the Freak Revolution, haha. The "shit happens" one was given to me by a friend on her last visit. The unicorn one reads "I hope a unicorn humps your bum", and was given to me by my favourite Canadian. "One in a million" was given to me a few years ago by the little girl who lived next door. She got it on her birthday, and gave it to me. I love the 'don't stare' badge, because people freak out when they read it after staring at you. The Jay Jays badges were a fundraising thing for one of the charities they support. The "Need Coffee Now" badge came from another good friend, and the "Lost Cause" Emily The Strange badge was a gift from my Mum. I love all these little things so damn much. But, where are the pictures I hear you say?

The steam train that was running to and from Steamfest.

The Boyfriend, as we were in the waiting stage of train chasing.

These beautiful draught horses were being used to show how farmers plowed their fields before the use of machinery.

It was really awesome to see the way this man could control the horses with his voice.

Oh, there were beautiful vintage cars as well.

I am madly in love with this ute. I have a thing for old, wierd coloured utes.

So there lovelies, it might be late but don't say I never tell you anything! I'm pretty sure you weren't saying that anyway, considering that I never shut up, but hey. How were your weekends? Exciting things? Faraway places? Link me to pictures of your adventures!

Until next time, xo.

A1 Bassline

Those of you that have been reading Panda Toes for a minute now might remember a certain Mr. Kagan. Anywho, he and I were driving to a gig a couple of weekends ago and started to chit and chat about A1 Bassline. We quickly came to the conclusion that every track the dude touches is perfect. "Breathless" is no different. I'm not really digging the video (it kinda feels like a budget Tron), but I couldn't care less - this song rules, A1 Bassline rules, life rules, etc.

My Body Is Not A Fashion Trend

Hello there lovelies,

I have a bone to pick today, and it's a big one. I'm sick of hearing in fashion magazines, and throughout the media that a particular body shape is 'in'. In particular, this is aimed at the articles proclaiming that natural breasts are back in fashion, after the casting call for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, where it was explicitly stated that only actresses with natural breasts need apply. It's not that I have a problem with these parameters being specified in a casting call. I have a problem with the following announcements that "natural breasts are back." I find it disturbing that body types, or even body parts can go in and out of fashion like handbags. I didn't choose these natural breasts, I was born with them, and getting breast implants is a huge, life-changing decision. My body is not a fashion trend, and I will not have what I do with it dictated to me by a fashion magazine. We may be getting closer to a society where we can pick how we want to look from a catalogue (provided we don't mind a bit of pain and scarring). But doesn't mean that we should have bodies sold to us by the media.

It galls me whenever I see articles stating that "curves are back", or that "this season a tall, slim look is in style". What does this say to people who don't naturally have those qualities? "Curves are back" implies that skinny is out - so all you skinny girls better move aside, because you're not in fashion anymore. All this does is perpetuate body image issues for the benefit of marketing. Breast implants are in? You better run out and have yourself some surgery honey. They're back out? Well, there are always expensive removal procedures. Curves are in? If you don't have your own, we can sell you things to create them. Tall and slim "the look" for this season? Better shell out for those Spanx sweetie! It's bullshit, and I won't stand for it.

We are all real women, with real bodies. We are tall, short, fat, skinny, lanky, stocky, curvy, flat. We have small boobs, and big hips, and thin lips, and button noses. We have skinny calves, and long torsos, and short legs, and no waists. We have breast implants, and nose jobs, and big butts, and tiny feet. Our bodies are all different, but they are all ours, and they are all beautiful. Screw the marketing. Your body, and mine don't need to follow trends. You don't need to buy what the fashion magazines are selling -your body is fine exactly the way that it is. Anything that you want to do with your body is your choice and yours alone. My body is not a fashion trend, and neither is yours.

Until next time, xo.

New Legendary Pictures GODZILLA Design To Be Revealed At Comic Con?

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: Talking Dog Studios

Though it doesn't appear on any of the San Diego Comic Con propaganda, it appears that "Legendary Pictures" has released the first image from their upcoming "Godzilla' movie at the convention and there will reportedly be a presentation that goes along with it.

I have the image for you here on the left.

Here is a press release from Talking Dog Studios about the event:

When Warner Brothers affiliate Legendary Pictures – responsible for such critically acclaimed films as Inception, Where the Wild Things Are, The Dark Knight, 300, and Watchmen – wanted to use Augmented Reality to announce their latest film, they turned to Saskatchewan’s Talking Dog Studios to provide them with the technology to do so.

This week, Legendary Pictures is at San Diego’s Comic-Con International, the world’s biggest comics and pop culture convention, celebrating the beginning of production on their next film: “Godzilla”. Persons attending the conference will receive a t-shirt with an image of the new Godzilla, and when they look at themselves in a webcam at the Legendary Pictures tradeshow booth, they’ll see a superimposed animation of Godzilla’s “atomic breath” shooting out into the air in front of them from Godzilla’s mouth, complete with black smoke rising from the flames and the ground-shaking bellow of Godzilla’s instantly recognizable roar.

This immersive experience was designed by Talking Dog Studios, of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and was supervised by Larry Monte of California’s Corporate Images. Talking Dog have been developing various AR applications for the past year, but owner Rob Bryanton sees this as a major step forward: “Augmented Reality is very open-ended, which is great because the possibilities are so wide, but it’s something that is best experienced rather than described,” says Bryanton. “With the Godzilla installation, we were able to quickly create something that our clients were immediately happy with, so we see this as a great recognition of the skillset that we’ve now developed”.

This comes at great surprise to yours truly, who visited the "Legendary Pictures" booth on Friday and saw absolutely zero items about "Godzilla" on display there.

A search of the Comic Con website reveals no such presentation by Legendary Pictures on "Godzilla" listed.

Maybe this was added today or will be added on Sunday, perhapse it was cancelled, regardless the Talking Dog Studios website has this image of the new "Godzilla", which I really love.

More on this as it develops!

Arkansas Family Builds Ultimate GODZILLA Suit

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: BlueRidgenow.com

When Legendary Pictures goes out to try and find someone to create a Godzilla suit for the upcoming film, they may not have to look in Japan, but in rural Arkansas instead.

Indeed the Baker family, father Rick and his two sons Rock and Kyle, have already created a great looking Godzilla costume that is ready for filming.

The Bakers estimate that they have invested about 200 hours and some $600 on creating what they consider to be the ultimate Godzilla suit, which is an combination of several of the monster's designs from it's 50 plus year film career.

Working day and night in the garage of their Hilltop Upholstery business in St. Joe, Arkansas the Baker boys turned rubber and plastic into a monster movie icon, which for the three men, was a true labor of love. Rick Baker is a self-described old fashioned horror movie buff, while his son Rock is an aspiring comic book artist.

Yet, it was brother Kyle who got the first opportunity to try on the Godzilla suit, which featured a fan in the head and pouches in the back for ice to keep the wearer nice and cool. But the sophistication of this Godzilla costume didn't just stop there, the melting ice from the internal pockets is also circulated throughout the suit via a complex tubing system. This Godzilla also features realistic looking eyes which can be moved by remote control.

As Kyle put the monster through it's paces he turned the head of more than few passers by on US highway 65 that runs adjacent to the makeshift monster studio that also doubles as an upholstery business.

Though the suit weighs some 75 pounds and has a rather lengthy tail attached, Kyle Baker had little trouble taking Godzilla for a test drive.

"I can actually feel it push against me," he said, "but I don't really feel the weight. It's so well balanced."

Though Legendary Pictures is presently developing a new American Godzilla movie, the Bakers believe that their best chance to break into the monster suite business will not come from Hollywood, where CGI effects now have become the standard, but in Japan, where the art of suit acting is still practiced.

To show of their skill, the Baker family packed up their monster and headed to Chicago for the annual "G-Fest" convention. It was their hope that since so many Japanese film industry types would be in attendance, they may get the opportunity to impress them and possibly land an opportunity overseas.

Yet there may still be hope for a job here in America, if Legendary Pictures listens to the Godzilla fan community and opts to combine the classic Godzilla suit acting with computer graphics for their film.

Will it happen? Only time will tell, but with any luck the Baker's will be able to crush miniature cities with their creation here in America rather than overseas.

Big Boi + Jack Beats

So Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty dropped a few weeks ago, and it's seriously dope. One of the standout jams in particular - "Shutterbug" - seemed perfect. Until Jack Beats touched it, that is. And as Jack Beats are prone to do, they took an already ill track and made even more fiery. Do Want.

Ciara + Ludacris + DJ DStar

Aight, so I'm a bit late on this one. I was all about Ciara's video for "Ride" a few months ago, but I'm just now getting around to blogging it. Eh, whatever. Anyways, the video is indescribably sexy. If you aren't already in love with with Ciara, you will be after this. Good moves, good fitteds, good pants, good looks, good everything.

And of course there's DStar's fiery remix of the track. We all know dude can shred on 1200s, but it's a better-kept secret that his production game is top notch as well. So good.

A Dose of Style - Shiloh Jolie-Pitt

Hello there lovelies,

You're probably already aware that I often take style inspiration from strange places. Rest assured, my newest inspiration is no different. Lately I'm really digging the style of young Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. That's right. I couldn't care less for all the media blather about "is Angelina turning Shiloh into a boy??!!!111!!". First of all, it's none of your business. Second of all, I think you're just jealous of someone discovering how to totally rock androgyny at such a tender age. Onwards!

Don't you just wish that you could accessorise with a sword? You totally do. But see, Shiloh here knows that it is possible to look way cute while wearing a trilby, vest and camo print.

First up, look at that smile and imitate it. Second of all, cutest outfit & haircut ever!

Keeping warm, and looking awesome! Beanies and layers and neutrals, oh my! Also I'm pretty sure there is a bow tie involved. GOLDEN.

Look out Angelina, I may just kidnap your child. Seriously, I don't mean that. I don't want a SWAT team bursting in my window. I love Shiloh's affinity for neutrals and blazers.

In conclusion, haters gonna back up off her, and let the girl do her thing! I think it is great that such a young person has such a defined sense of style. And again, seriously, why is it anyones business if a little girl wants to wear some boyish clothes? I wanted to wear frilly princess dresses all the time when I was little, and look how I turned out. I believe I make an excellent point.

Until next time, xo.

Tim Burton On For MONSTERPOCALYPSE - Still In Line For GODZILLA? - More Film Details!

Written By: Ken Hulsey
Source: SlashFilm

Last May it was announced that Disney / Dreamworks had signed on John August to write a big screen adaptation of the giant monster game, "Monsterpocalypse" from Privateer Press. Along with that news came a lot of speculation that Tim Burton would soon follow as a director for the film, due in large part his long history of collaborating with the writer, mostly on Disney backed projects.
Well today it has been confirmed by producer Roy Lee, via an interview with the Slashfilm website, that indeed Burton is developing "Monsterpocalypse" along with August and Matt Wilson of Privateer Press who is serving as a co-producer. According to the interview, the later two are presently banging out a script as we speak.

Lee would go on to do more than just confirm Burton's involvement with the film, he would also reveal many of the plot points in "Monsterpocalypse" as well.

According to Lee, "The general take on the film that I can give you is that the giant monsters come to earth and start wreaking havoc. The humans, at this point, fight back. And they feel like they’ve destroyed them, but they quickly learn that the monsters that come had actually not died and just sort of burrowed underground and are sending some sort of signal into space. Apparently, it is probably going to be a distress signal. So the humans know that something is going to be coming, they just don’t know what yet. And they know how big these monsters can be. Then it cuts to many years later when nothing has come back, but the humans have prepared for possible monsters coming back. And by this time, they have developed these giant robots that will fight the monsters when they come. That is what is going to take place. But most of the movie is going to be during that battle between the giant robots and the giant monsters."

Lee also lets it slip that Burton was in line to direct the upcoming "Godzilla" movie for Legendary Pictures, which he is also serving as a producer for.

Check out this excerpt from the interview:

Peter (SlashFilm): Wow. I had heard rumors that Tim Burton was considering directing “Godzilla” for Legendary, which you are also producing.

Roy: I’m producing.

Peter: Did he choose this over that, or…?

Roy: I can’t really talk about that, just because Warner Brothers is not going to be very happy with me.

I think that we can all read between the lines there, either Burton is still on board for "Godzilla", which would make a lot of fans very happy, or he opted to pass on the money from Legendary Pictures for Disney dollars.

The producer also mentioned that though "Voltron" is part of the "Monsterpocalypse" board game, Burton and company opted to leave the iconic giant robot out of the film, "
The company that owns Voltron approached us, Matt Wilson, to be able to utilize the robots for the world of "Monsterpocalypse". But we are not using anything from there in the movie, because a lot of the robots and monsters will be created by Tim himself and the cast."

In fact Burton will be developing the giant monsters and robots for the film alongside four time Academy Award winning effects man Ken Ralston who has worked on such films as the "Back to the Future" series, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and the "Star Wars" trilogy.

Other items of interest from the interview include the fact that the film will be shot in 3D, of course, and that it is presently slated for a late 2012 release.

I don't know about you, but this sounds just awesome to me! The plot sounds great and the involvement of Burton pretty much seals the deal!

I just can't wait to see how Burton tackles a giant monster film!

Katy B + Benga

Let's get one thing straight: I'm not a big dubstep fan. There are a few tracks I play regularly, but the genre as a whole never really made sense to me. However, Katy B's new cut - which was produced by Benga - is seriously huge. It's poppy, it's grimey, and it's absolutely banging.

Keep an eye out for Katy B's upcoming LP, which drops soon on Rinse.

What I Wore Today!

Hello there lovelies,

I'm going to say again: HOLY CRAP, I'M ACTUALLY HOME FOR GOOD. I'd left my bag packed in the hallway for most of the weekend until I realised that I didn't have to go anywhere tomorrow. Call me soppy and sentimental if you will, but I am so excited to get to sleep in my bed beside The Boyfriend again. As well as being completely and utterly in love with that crazy guy, I also count him as my best friend. And it's freakin' sad to be laughing at "in" jokes when you're the only one who is "in" on them. Anyway, I was feeling like some kind of insane bag lady today, and this is the outfit I came up with to match my mood.

Outfit Rundown

Cardigan: Jay Jays, $30
Tie-Dye Tank: Jay Jays, $15
Jeans: Target, $20. Ripped up by me.
Boots: Target, $40

I'm pretty sure I was using my cardigan to try and fly in that picture. I do that sometimes. Plus, did anyone notice I'm so pale that The Boyfriends camera is overexposing my skin? That's my trademark radioactive white tan.

I need a haircut so badly. My fringe is making me blind. Although, I am happy about being able to do these wierd little buns on the side of my head again. Once upon a time this was my signature hairstyle. So much so that my friends referred to me as the Goth Princess Leia, as I also only wore black at the time. Little bit of history for you there. Also, The Boyfriend told me not to take shots while he was in the background. I guess I didn't listen. Oops.

How's your weekend going? What are you kooky kids wearing?

Until next time, xo.

Knowing the President

Thomas Tull: president, producer, fan of Godzilla

Written by Evan Brehany
Adapted from an article from Variety, "Legendary Pictures Dances Geek to Geek"

Last time, I overlooked the producers of this project. It is time again to look at another key member of the Legendary Pictures group, one with a lot of power. One who has recently had something published about him in Variety. Defiantly the Shogo Tomiyama of this project, we are going to take a look at Thomas Tull, president of Legendary Pictures.
.
"Godzilla is one of the world's most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise," said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary. "Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has."
-Official Statement from Legendary Pictures on their "Godzilla" project

That comment was one thing which fans seemed to pay attention to. However, unlike just something said to please the fans, the business behind the way Thomas makes films is more in tune with wishful thinking of fans than straight business. "Outsiders arriving in Hollywood with deep pockets, a desire to make movies and a reliance on gut instinct often lose their shirts. But Thomas Tull has defied the odds… His secret: He's a fan of genre fare who's focused on creating films for fellow fan boys… While many producers have embraced genre fare as a calculated ploy, Tull does it because he proudly touts himself as one of the fan boys. ‘All you have to do is meet Thomas,’ says one Warner Bros. exec. ‘He's a total geek and makes movies geeks want to see. He's not shy about that.’" says Variety.

Another thing that Variety also mentioned was how far Thomas goes for his pictures based on fan fare. "Tull generally sticks with things he knows, which means commercial films with a sense of adventure but that can be appreciated by adults… He tends to stay away from producing romantic comedies and most dramas." The best part of the whole thing is, "That means letting films be dark in tone or R-rated when they need to be." It was also said that, "He counts "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones", "Godzilla", and "The Goonies" as some of his favorite movies." It is safe to presume that by "Godzilla", Variety means the original 1954 Japanese masterpiece. "The poor reception for "The Ant Bully" and "We Are Marshall" may have influenced Tull to veer away from traditional kidpics and dramas." With that Variety quote, we can be safe to assume that this Godzilla will not be aimed at juvenile affair.

As for the looking for a director, as I last wrote on this blog about LPG, Variety said, "In recent weeks, an abundance of idle helmers chased less than a dozen open directing assignments: …"All You Need Is Kill," "Clash of the Titans 2," "Godzilla" and "Snabba Cash" at Warner Bros." Variety also said that the people more likely to helm a picture are people who have lower quotes (rates of pay) then usual directors. This may not effect "Godzilla" though. "Not surprisingly, the wish list of filmmakers he wants to work with includes Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Quentin Tarantino and James Cameron." Seeing Tull’s list, the names would include other icons such as Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, and Tim Burton. All directors who have expressed influence from Godzilla from doing anything to raise money to watch the original "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" (1956) as many times as he can (Scorsese) to even going to Toho studios to option them to do the special effects for his movie (Lucas). While it is a good business decision to get a lower name, a higher name is not ruled out. As for Tull’s involvement with the film, the probable want from him to have Godzilla be dark will stick when production starts. "…he lets directors essentially run with their creative ideas and remains relatively hands-off once a project has been developed and agreed upon." If the "essential elements" are done "justice" to when the project is agreed upon, we will get a Godzilla resembling more that of "Mothra vs. Godzilla" than "Godzilla vs. Megalon".

Overall, Thomas Tull is a man who is a self declared fan boy who has made marketing on fan boy pictures from a smart business ploy to something done because the person executing the ploy is actually a fan. With Tull being reportedly a fan of the original Godzilla, we may get a Godzilla more in tune with "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack" than "Godzilla vs. Gigan" or the dreaded "Godzilla" from 1998. Things are looking good for the LPG project.

Best of the Interwebz

Hello there lovelies!

Oh freakin' Em Gee, I am so happy to be home. I don't do well being seperated from The Boyfriend and our furry little family. It's so nice to just sit around in my own house, instead of some crazy unit in Toowoomba. Granted, I do still have to go back and assist on opening day, but that's it. I'm home for good now. But somewhere amidst my excitement, I still managed to procure some awesome links for you today. Read on good readers!

Hurrah internetz! Now, if only the "c" and "n" keys on my laptop would actually work every damn time instead of making me punch at them a million times first. But hey, baby steps, right laptop? Aw crap, now my space bar has started doing it.

Until next time, xo.

Swedish House Mafia

As you might imagine, I've been heaps into Swedish House Mafia for a minute now. However, it wasn't until relatively recently that I was entirely sold on "One." The track grew on me and I soon fell in love with the Hardwell and Congorock remixes. Not so sure about the Pharrell version just yet - here's to hoping that grows on me too.

My Three Weeks In Toowoomba (Or, Looking Cute Without Freezing Your Ass Off)

Hello lovelies!

Hopefully as you're reading this I've made it home safely from my three week stint in Toowoomba helping to open up a new Trade Secret store. So basically, I started the three weeks working in a freezing, dark warehouse and eventually it became a shiny new store. In between though, there is a lot of sorting, invoicing, heavy lifting and organising of merchandise to do. It is hard work - you finish your day exhausted, cold and dirty. But, there is no reason that you can't look reasonably good doing it, without sacrificing comfort or warmth. To commemorate my three weeks in the town of coldness, here is a little Winter inspiration for those of you who do this kind of thing on a regular basis, or just need some ideas of cute lounging-round-the-house-wear.

Toowoomba Style by Miss Peregrin featuring Old Navy t shirts

These are pretty good example of what I wore to work everyday in Toowoomba. No joke, every day I was wearing at least a singlet, t-shirt, long-sleeved shirt and a jumper. Also, a beanie, scarf and gloves. Those hobo gloves with no fingers - they saved my life, you hear me?

But, if you're (unlike me), not really a jeans girl then there are always some pretty cute sweatpant alternatives. I've been trying to jazz everything up with some bright colours, interesting prints, or funny slogans to help make the day a bit more bearable. According to the people I work with I have the best t-shirt collection known to man. I have to admit, this is probably true. This has also been my best ever chance to trot out my extensive collection of knitted headwear and scarves. In Brisbane it doesn't often get cold enough for me to really rug up, but Toowoomba has great scarf/beanie weather.

I'm so happy that I've finally gotten a chance to really layer up as well! Like with beanies/scarves, it doesn't often get cold enough to really get going with layers in Brisbane, so I've been working the shit out of layers in good old Toowoomba. It's probably a lot of effort to put in just to work in an unopened store, but dressing a bit cute makes me feel so much better for the day ahead. So, how about you lovelies? When you're lounging around, or doing a bit of grunt work do you still try to look good?

Until next time, xo.
