Hello there lovelies,
Now I'm going to say straight up, if you don't know who Samantha Carter is, then get out. No don't really, I like you here! But Captain/Major Samantha Carter has been one of my idols since my early childhood, when I first watched Stargate:SG1. Stop laughing, I'm completely serious! Carter is an Air Force Captain with a Ph.D in Theoretical Astrophysics, who joins SG1. SG1, of course, is a military team dedicated to visiting other planets with the help of a network of ancient alien devices, known as Stargates. Also, she looks pretty kick-ass in military gear.
Things we can learn from Samantha Carter:
- Brains will get you everywhere, and having brains doesn't mean you can't look good. Sam might be beautiful, but she is also brilliant. There isn't a good idea on the show that isn't hers, and yet she still looks great.
- You can indeed look feminine with short hair. It's all a matter of attitude and styling.
- You can do alot with a few good basics. Also, being limited to only a few colours - say, black and khaki - doesn't mean immediately looking dowdy.
- If you're going to be walking alot (say on the surfaces of unknown alien planets) wear suitable shoes!
- Perfecting a suitably intimidating "badass" pose (see below) really helps in a tight spot.
- There are situations where comfort and practicality win over style. Deal with it. Do you think Sam would still be alive if she tried escaping enemy fire wearing heels?
- Confidence is key. Sam never belittles her own achievements by suggesting that they aren't that important, or that anyone could have come up with the idea. She knows she's amazing and doesn't aplogise for it.
- Any good wardrobe has camo print hidden in it somewhere. You know what I mean.
- Make-up is an optional thing. If you don't like it, and don't want to wear it, then don't.
- A utility belt makes a pretty frickin' badass accessory. Just sayin', you know?
Anyway, everyone should go watch Stargate:SG1 now. Then you should do what The Boyfriend and I do, and sit up late having intense dicussions about physics, aliens, and why the hell Sam and Jack never got together properly. Rockin'.
Until next time, xo.
