Scott Melker + Gotye + Biggie

So Scott Melker and I did that "Call Me Jay-Z" mash-up music thing. And we had fun doing it and it was pretty well-received so we were all, "Aight, let's do a bunch of these. Or something." So Scott did one. Like. The next day or something. Because he's a beast. A machine. Etc. Gotye. Biggie. And it's even better than the one we did together. Which is saying a lot, considering how very obsessed I am with both myself and everything I do.

Carly Rae Jepsen + Jay-Z + Scott Melker + Friendly Greg

All three or four of my friends kept hollering at me on Google Chat yesterday. And I'm all, "Chill dudes, I'm working." And they're like, "You don't have a job, what are you so darned busy with?" What am I busy with? First I have to go to Scottie's. Then we have to slow down the "Call Me Maybe" instrumental. And pitch adjust it. Or whatever. We have to find the perfect drums to slide under it. And the perfect "boom" to go with those drums. Etc. We have to figure out how to blend Jay-Z's "99 Problems" with all of that. Blah, blah, etc. And on and on and on. These Carly Rae Jepsen v. Jay-Z edits don't make themselves, people. This is a real job, damnit. This is hard work and it requires our undivided attention. Shoo!

Scott Melker + Tyga + Drake + Lil Wayne + Simon Gain

Went to the dentist's office today. Had some cavities that needed filling. Had never had a cavity before. So yea, I'm nervous. Saw a cute girl on the train. Didn't say anything to her or make eye contact with her or smile at her or anything. Just stared at my feet. Per usual. My dentist has an XLR8R subscription? Whoa, that's pretty tite! Wait, do I really want some hipster dentist working on my teeth? Do I trust hipsters? Shouldn't my dentist be an old guy or gal that's kinda cranky but undoubtedly awesome at doing stuff to teeth since they're clearly not retaining customers because of their sparkling personalities? Whatever, I already have seventeen needles in my gums. No stopping now. New Scott Melker remix below, BTW.

Lana Del Rey + Jay-Z + Scott Melker

Aw, shucks. Yung Scott Melker and his mash-ups. Or blends or edits or remixes or whatever you wanna call 'em. I dunno. They just keep coming and coming and coming and etc. And it's not like he's just slopping out one after the next. I mean, they're good. Really good. Like have you heard The Melker Project? It's beastly. Volume 2 coming (not) soon (enough).

Scott Melker + Rihanna + Calvin Harris + Chuckie

So this girl comes up to me. Asks me to play "We Found Love." And I'm all, "Yo, I already played it. Plus, it's 3:45 AM and I'm not allowed to play contemporary Top 40 after 2 here. Soz." And she's like, "I'm gonna fart on you if you don't play it!" And I assume she's kidding because, well, that sure would be weird if this beautiful girl farted on me for not playing "We Found Love," wouldn't it? But the joke was on me! The song was not played, and I was farted on.

Oh, and Scott Melker made a Moombahpop edit of the Chuckie remix.

Perfume + Scott Melker + TLC + Marvin Gaye

So I'm heading up to my alma mater to do a wee bit of DJing today. Err, I'm heading up today. DJing tomorrow. Which means I'll be feeling like an old man for the next 48 hours. The kids in college now? Clowns probably don't even remember Legends of the Hidden Temple. Probably never saw The Secret World of Alex Mack. Weren't in stitches during All That. And I find it remarkably difficult to respect anyone that doesn't come from my era of Nickelodeon.

So I got paid yesterday. And yea. I went hammer on the 99¢ store. Tin piggy bank with kittens and puppies on it? Check. Three new scented candles? Absolutely. Value box of Kraft Dinner? Obviously, duh. Sometimes life is just so indisputably good.

Scott Melker + NSR + Friendly Greg

OK. So this blog is first and foremost about making myself look cool. So with that in mind, think about the fact that I haven't yet posted my latest mix. Weird, right? Yea, I'm forgetful. But alas, here it is. My good pal NSR and I sat down one afternoon. Made a crate. Tweaked it. Mapped out a track list. And recorded the mix the next afternoon in one take. It may not be the best thing you've ever heard, but it's certainly the best thing I've ever heard.

Speaking of 101 Management. Scott Melker. Easily one of the best DJs I've ever met. Easily the best DJ that likes me enough to give me high fives on the regular. Anyways. Much like the kid Turbz (see: yesterday), Scott makes mad edits. Mash-ups. Moombahpop. Etc. You can find the vast majority of them here. But yo. Most recently it's the "Sex on Fire" v. Gucci joint. And it's fire, and it's blowing up the internet. Give it a whirl:

Cosmo Baker + 101

OK. Tonight. Tonight is gonna be major, major, major. We've got one DJ celebrating an engagement and three DJs celebrating birthdays. We've got that open vodka bar from 10-11. It's free. Etc. Oh, and we've also got Cosmo Baker. Yea, this Cosmo Baker. The legend. Oh my goodness, goodness gracious, holy cow.

I mean. Like. I dunno. I'm not saying you have to come. It's just that. Like. What are you trying to get involved in that's gonna be better than this?

Nick Catchdubs + 101 Crew

101 is a monthly Thursday night party at 49 Grove with the 101 Management crew (Scott Melker, NSR, Ian Boyd, and me), Senari, the Prodigy kids, and some special guests. Tonight we've got Nick Catchdubs from Fool's Gold, Mike Famous, and Scott Matelic guesting. Hip-hop happy hour from 7-10, 101 DJs from 10-4, open vodka bar from 10-11, no cover, etc. Most importantly, I'll be playing Choppa's hit single "Choppa Style" back-to-back-to-etc. from 3-4.

Scott Melker + NSR + Dirty South Joe + Flufftronix

Ayo. Boys. Girls. It's been what, five months now? Yea, five months. Way back in September I was tellin' y'all about, "Blah, blah, blah, I really wanna DJ a party with NSR, this, that, and the other, blah, blah." Well ladies and gents, dreams do in fact come true. NSR and I now rock together the first Wednesday of every month at The Blind Barber and the second Thursday of every month at 49 Grove. It's truly magical, and it sounds a little something like this:

NSR - The War on Hugs

What's more, I've got three mixes to share from our friend Scott Melker. First up is Scott's The Melker Project. A wild tape full of mash-ups done live on turntables, not production software. Really impressive, infectious stuff:

Scott Melker - The Melker Project

And since the above mix is sure to leave you wanting more, check out Scott's Valentine's-appropriate Knockin' Boots series. The first of the two is one of my favorite mixes in the history of ever. It dropped in 2008 and never got old. The second picks up just where the first left off. A prime selection of 90s R&B. Grade A baby-makin' music:

Scott Melker - Knockin' Boots
Scott Melker - Knockin' Boots 2

And last but not least is Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix's Luvstep 2. Dubstep creeps me out. Annoys me. Irritates me. Etc. But DSJ and Fluffy's Luvstep was a classic. A wonderfully done mix. I haven't had time to check out the second (it was released just minutes ago), but I'm sure it's just as splendid. Peep them both at the Luvstep website and be sure to catch the dudes on their release tour:

Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix - Luvstep 1 + 2

Aight, so that's that. I'd like to be all, "I'm totally gonna start posting again, let's get the ball rolling!" But yea, that's probably not gonna happen. But y'all might as well leave me in your RSS feeds just in case.

Best,
Greg
